The Monday morning owner's report
One page every Monday with the numbers that matter and the three things that need you.
- Time
- Half a day to set up
- You'll need
- Your accounting, booking and sales tools · A spreadsheet · An automation tool · An AI assistant
- You'll end up with
- An automatic weekly report that replaces five spreadsheets and a gut feeling.
The steps
- 01
Pick at most eight numbers
Cash in the bank, money owed to you, sales booked, jobs completed, new leads, reviews, and one or two specific to your trade. If a number never changes a decision, drop it.
- 02
Collect them in one sheet
Have an automation copy each number into a spreadsheet every Friday, one row per week. Keep at least eight weeks so trends show.
- 03
Write the brief
Each Monday, send the sheet to your assistant and ask for a one-page summary: what changed, why it might have changed and what needs your decision.
Prompt Here are my business's weekly numbers for the last eight weeks. Write a one-page Monday brief: 1) the three biggest changes versus the 4-week average, 2) possible reasons, marked as guesses, 3) up to three decisions I should make this week. Plain language, no jargon. [paste sheet]
- 04
Deliver it where you'll read it
Email or message it to yourself at 7 a.m. Monday. Share it with your team if it helps them act.
What breaks
- One tool's export changes format and the numbers go blank. Check that each number is present before the brief is written.
Keep it safe
- The brief should say which numbers are facts and which explanations are guesses.
How you'll know it worked
- Whether you read it every week.
- Decisions made on Monday instead of Friday.
